Anyone who has become a great leader, an influential teacher, a dynamic speaker, a prolific writer, a model of human compassion, dignity, intellectual dexterity or entrepreneurial wonder has followed someone else in some way. Great teachers are great learners. Great writers are great readers. Great presenters are great attendees. They watch. They metabolize. They take in information that allows them to serve in their greatest capacity – as a human first, and then in through their vocational gifts. It makes them not just smart at what they do – but totally DYNAMIC as beings in our midst.
Sometimes as business owners we can be so busy “leading” whatever troops, ideas, employees, services or products we’re creating that we forget to turn around and LISTEN, FOLLOW, WATCH, TAKE IN. It’s your nutrition. It’s your fuel. But you have to actively take it – make time, make space, make room in your calendar and in yourself.
